Sean Connolly

Sean ‘The Sledge’ Connolly Sean was Born in Preston 1961 ( and was probably taken into care immediately for the sanity of the nation ). His family moved to Sunny Southport shortly after his birth where his parents struggled to bring up five children through some difficult times during the 60’s and 70’s. His mother was a care manager and his father an ex Marine from the Burma campaign. He was found most nights skirmishing along Lord Street in Southport town centre and doing the leopard crawl past the monument after eighteen pints of mild and bitter. His mother is still alive and are very fit and active. Being the first pupils in a new school Sean gave academic years a good go, although from well before these years he knew he was going to sign up for the Queens shilling and become a member of her majesty’s armed forces, so he didn’t give it as much as he could. At sixteen years old and with a handful of C.S.E qualifications he signed the ‘X’ on the application form and he was in. A proud member of the Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Artillery at sixteen years of age. he thought he knew everything in life as a roughy toughy squaddie. The subsequent year of basic training taught him otherwise and the military took all the delusions of grandeur from his childish mind and transformed him into a soldier and a man. he learned so much about himself in that first year in the army than he had in his first sixteen years of life. His service life took him to Germany when he was seventeen where he served with the Lowland Gunners. Having performed in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo twice as a gymnast (although you wouldn’t believe it now) and once in the ‘Gun Race’ (You would believe that even less) He always strived to be, as the advert says, ‘the best’. He also served in other far off lands and did very well in the travel department. Some places he enjoyed such as Belize and Canada and some he would dream of taking about. Alas his army service came to an end leaving him with many qualifications including driving instructor for heavy goods. This was a trade he was wishing to pursue upon his demobilisation from the army. Alas driving turned out to be another bad idea and after becoming a security supervisor at our local RAF camp decided to ‘up sticks’ and move abroad where he was responsible for looking after the security for the airfield in the Ascension Island. The qualifications of Emergency Medical technician and Air Transport Security Assessor served him well on this occasion. While he was in Ascension Island he co presented a radio show every Saturday morning for the island and after receiving some rave reviews, he can remember thinking that he would love to do it all again in the future. Our show on W8ZDR was a great laugh and we got away with murder….When the opportunity came up to be a guest on Mighty FM, he jumped at the chance. He had no idea what the future held and that he could possibly be presenting a show on Mighty Radio. His working life involves him ensuring people are working safely or, ‘Poking my nose in it’. He has been a health and safety advisor for a number of years and he is as passionate about this job as he was about the army. His hobbies include, motorbikes, writing and his family although he doesnt have too much time for any of them. He has published a number of books with another one to be released September 2019. His life is full and he don’t has too many dislikes other than curry, spices, herbs, left-hand drive cars, cat juggling, the word ‘bespoke’ Oh and not to forget banana skins. He lives life to the full and enjoy helping people. He doesn't like to see fellow beings suffering. So if you want the same, tune into Mighty Radio on Saturday afternoon where you wont get culture, you wont get entertainment, but you will just get Sean Connolly having a really good time!….. Catch you on the airwaves. Sean Connolly
